Originally created for the conference room of the Japan Folk Crafts Museum, the chair was introduced in 1969 by Kotobuki, a pioneer in FRP production. While many contemporary fiberglass shell chairs—such as those by Charles & Ray Eames—relied on folded edges for reinforcement, this design eliminated the edge return. Structural strength is instead achieved through the distinctive curvature between the backrest and seat. The result is a chair that balances structural clarity, ergonomic comfort, and refined minimalism. This particular piece was a custom model originally used at Sakaide Civic Hall in Kagawa Prefecture, designed by architect Masato Otaka and completed in 1974. It features a rare muted red shell, a distinctive color that was used throughout the hall. It is the Low-height specification among the three available seat heights (Low / Mid / High). Produced by STUA, a furniture manufacturer based in the Basque Country of Spain, Egoa has remained one of the company’s most distinctive and enduring designs. The chair features a light chromed-steel rod frame combined with independently mounted seat and backrest sections. Aluminium connecting components allow the seat and backrest to move in response to the user’s posture and body weight. Rather than holding the body in a fixed position, the chair follows its natural movement and provides a dynamic, comfortable sitting experience. The frame is constructed from 14 mm solid steel rod and offers a subtle flexibility together with excellent structural stability. This example is upholstered in a refined brown striped fabric and finished with wooden armrests. The contrast between the warm upholstery, dark wood and chromed frame gives the chair a balanced presence suitable for residential, office and commercial interiors. Constructed from Indian teak, the chair features an integrated writing tablet extending from one side, together with a slatted wooden seat and a lower shelf for storing books and personal belongings. Its backrest is composed of slender wooden supports arranged in a subtle fan-shaped formation, giving the otherwise utilitarian structure a distinctive architectural presence. Bamboo pegs and old iron nails can be seen throughout its construction, preserving traces of traditional craftsmanship and a simple building method rarely found in contemporary mass-produced furniture. Combining seating, writing and storage within a single compact form, the chair reflects the practical and straightforward character of Indian institutional furniture. Years of use have created a rich surface with visible wear, variations in color and traces of old repairs. Over time, the durable Indian teak has developed a dry texture and a deep, warm patina unique to this individual piece. This example features an early fiberglass shell manufactured by Zenith Plastics for Herman Miller in the early 1950s. The shell retains the distinctive rope edge associated with early production, together with remnants of a Zenith-era label on the underside. Its pale parchment-colored surface reveals a dense and expressive pattern of glass fibers. The appearance changes subtly with the light, creating the organic depth and texture for which early Eames fiberglass shells are particularly valued. The sculptural shell is paired with a delicate wire base and curved wooden runners, creating the low, gently rocking form of the RAR. The combination of fiberglass, metal and wood gives the chair a balanced architectural presence from every angle. P.TWORKS&DESIGNのPとTはPersimmon Tannin（柿渋）の頭文字です。 ■お取り扱いについて 本品はお洗濯はあまりお勧めしません。 ブラシなどで軽く汚れを落としてください。 気になる場合は革部分を避け、キャンバス部分のみを手洗いして下さい。 お洗濯により生地が柔らかくなり、若干縮みます。 風合いを変えたくない方は市販の防水スプレーを全体に吹きかけておくと汚れが付きにくくなります。(その場合は必ず目立たない部分で試して異常がないか確認して下さい。) 部分はたまに無色の革用保湿クリームなどを塗って頂くと、カもなり、柔らかく、いつまでも風合いよくお使い頂けます。

To reproduce the charm and feel of the French vintage using modern-day technology and share its original spirit with more people, the eyewear brand, guépard, has been launched by two French vintage eyewear experts: Masashi Yamamura and Kazuki Yanagihara.

Yamamura is the owner of eyewear store, SPEAKEASY, in Kobe, Hyogo, while Yanagihara runs his own eyewear store, Fréquence, in Sapporo, Hokkaido. Despite the fact that there are only a handful of stores specializing in vintage eyewear in Japan—let alone those dealing in unused vintage products—both Yamamura and Yanagihara are renowned French vintage eyewear experts. Paving the way for French vintage eyewear while developing guépard, both have long sourced a wide range of French eyewear frames and introduced them into Japan.

Yamamura and Yanagihara also jointly published a French vintage eyewear archive book, entitled “FrameFrance.” It explores the design of a wide array of French vintage eyewear pieces from the 1940s to the 1950s, a period when French eyewear took the world by storm with its excellence and unparalleled quality.
