The underside retains its original-style Herman Miller Furniture Company paper patent label. Based on the patent numbers listed on the label, the circular factory inspection stamp and the small shock mounts, the shell is believed to date from the early period of second-generation production, circa 1959–1960. The color is Parchment, one of the earliest colors developed for the Eames fiberglass shell collection. Positioned between ivory and pale beige, the surface can also display subtle yellow or green undertones depending on the surrounding light. Dense glass fibers remain clearly visible throughout the shell, creating the expressive and organic texture associated with early vintage Eames fiberglass production. The shell is paired with a black-finished steel X-base. Originally created for the conference room of the Japan Folk Crafts Museum, the chair was introduced in 1969 by Kotobuki, a pioneer in FRP production. While many contemporary fiberglass shell chairs—such as those by Charles & Ray Eames—relied on folded edges for reinforcement, this design eliminated the edge return. Structural strength is instead achieved through the distinctive curvature between the backrest and seat. This particular piece was a custom model originally used at Sakaide Civic Hall in Kagawa Prefecture, designed by architect Masato Otaka and completed in 1974. This example features a vintage fiberglass shell manufactured by Herman Miller. Its most distinctive feature is the rare discontinued Terracotta color. The rich surface shifts between orange, red and earthy brown depending on the light, giving the chair remarkable depth and character. Dense glass fibers remain clearly visible throughout the shell, creating the expressive and organic texture associated with vintage Eames fiberglass production. An embossed Herman Miller marking can be found on the underside of the shell. The shell is paired with a delicate wire Eiffel base, creating one of the most recognizable configurations of the Eames shell chair. The contrast between the organic molded shell and the geometric wire structure gives the chair a sculptural presence from every angle. The depth of color, exposed fiberglass and natural signs of age give this example a character that can only be found in vintage production. P.TWORKS&DESIGNのPとTはPersimmon Tannin（柿渋）の頭文字です。 ■お取り扱いについて 本品はお洗濯はあまりお勧めしません。 ブラシなどで軽く汚れを落としてください。 気になる場合は革部分を避け、キャンバス部分のみを手洗いして下さい。 お洗濯により生地が柔らかくなり、若干縮みます。 風合いを変えたくない方は市販の防水スプレーを全体に吹きかけておくと汚れが付きにくくなります。(その場合は必ず目立たない部分で試して異常がないか確認して下さい。) 部分はたまに無色の革用保湿クリームなどを塗って頂くと、カもなり、柔らかく、いつまでも風合いよくお使い頂けます。
