インドの教育施設で使用されていた、ヴィンテージのスクールチェア。
インドチーク材のフレームに、片側へ大きく張り出した書き板を備えた特徴的な構造です。
背もたれには、中央から放射状に広がる細身のスポークを配し、座面には通気性を考慮したスラット構造を採用。座面下には、書籍や荷物を置くための棚も設けられています。
接合部には竹釘や古い鉄釘が使われており、現代の量産家具には見られない素朴な構造と、手仕事の跡が随所に残されています。
装飾性を抑えながら、書き板、椅子、収納という複数の機能をひとつにまとめた、インドの公共家具らしい合理的なデザインです。
長年にわたり実際の教育現場で使い込まれてきたことで生まれた、木部の擦れや色の濃淡、補修跡も本個体ならではの表情。堅牢なインドチーク材が年月を重ね、乾いた質感と深みのある色合いへと変化しています。
オブジェとしての存在感があり、ジャンヌレをはじめとするインドのモダニズム家具とも自然に調和します。
椅子としてはもちろん、書き板をサイドテーブル代わりに使用したり、店舗やギャラリーのディスプレイとして取り入れるのもおすすめです。

A vintage school chair originally used in an educational institution in India.
Constructed from Indian teak, the chair features an integrated writing tablet extending from one side, together with a slatted wooden seat and a lower shelf for storing books and personal belongings.
Its backrest is composed of slender wooden supports arranged in a subtle fan-shaped formation, giving the otherwise utilitarian structure a distinctive architectural presence.
Bamboo pegs and old iron nails can be seen throughout its construction, preserving traces of traditional craftsmanship and a simple building method rarely found in contemporary mass-produced furniture.
Combining seating, writing and storage within a single compact form, the chair reflects the practical and straightforward character of Indian institutional furniture.
Years of use have created a rich surface with visible wear, variations in color and traces of old repairs. Over time, the durable Indian teak has developed a dry texture and a deep, warm patina unique to this individual piece.
The chair has a strong sculptural presence and works naturally alongside Indian modernist furniture, including pieces by Pierre Jeanneret.
It can be used as a chair, a small writing station, a side table or a sculptural display piece in a residential, commercial or gallery interior.
